Models
Two training models are offered to elementary teachers
in Pierce and King Counties.
School Team Model
In this model, Arts Impact enrolls a team of teachers from a school.
A minimum of three teachers per building is required. The team participates
in the institute together along with other school teams from around
the region. The team selects a common artist-mentor to work with
each of them at their school during the course of the 9-hour mentorship.
Whole School Model
The whole school model enrolls the entire faculty of a building,
including specialists. This model has the advantage of allowing
a school to move towards consistent, sequential art instruction
for all students and positions a building to meet the State requirement
to report out arts learning by the year 2009. In addition, it provides
a solid support group, as all teachers are involved in learning
to teach a new content area. This model also facilitates ordering
of arts supplies, maximizing those budget dollars to order high
quality art materials that all teachers know how to use.
Results of the U.S. Department of Education research grant documenting learning from the Whole School Model at Ptarmigan Ridge Intermediate School in the Orting School District will be published in the fall of 2005. Another Whole School Model is underway for the 2005-2007 cycle of training at Parkwood Elementary School in the Shoreline School District.
